California Poppies for Global Design Project #GDP076

This week over at Global Design Project, it’sย CASE the Designer and it’s no other than Kylie Bertucci…I love her work! Here is her beautiful card. Do you know what CASE means? In case you don’t (haaaaa), CASE means Copy And Selectively Edit, so you take what you like from the design and make it your own.ย

From Kylie’s design, I wanted to capture the layout and the flowers forย my card. I wanted to create a soft watercolor card, using a layering and blendingย effect for the flowers because I wanted the eye to meander through the card but not rest on any one point in particular. Except for the sentiment, the card has a soft flowing mixture of Peekaboo Peach, Pumpkin Pie, Pear Pizzazz Classic Stampin’ Ink Pads and the centers and sentiment are stamped with Chocolate Chip Classic Stampin’ Ink Pad. That’s it! Well, except for the Peekaboo Peach, Pear Pizzazz, Watercolor Paper, Whisper White Cardstock and my fav…Linen Thread.

I used the stamp set Bunch of Blossoms to create this card. When it was finished, it actually looks like California poppies. What do you think?I spritzed a piece of watercolor paper, stamped off the base stamp with Peekaboo Peach and formed the flowers. I did this one by one. I then added a second layer with full strength Peekaboo Peach Stampin’ Ink and finished the top of the flower with a stamp touched with Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Ink. If one area looked too perfect, I used the Aqua Painter to blend the colors. I stamped ย the small base leaf with Pear Pizzazz and moved it as I stamped to give a softer effect. I used the Aqua Painter to blend the color.

The center of the flower is stamped with straight up Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Ink. I added a little Wink of Stella to the center…why? Because every card needs a little sparkle. Linen thread was looped around my fingers and I took another little piece, tied it tight in the center and worked the bow from side to side until I was satisfied. The loopy bow construction is courtesy of Billie Moan. Now I can’tย stop making these bows! ย My stampin’ buddy Rosemarrie Gonzolez, of Rosie’s Creative Cottage, taught me to curl the ends of my ribbon with my bone folder, easy peasy. I’ve been curling ribbon for years on gift boxes with the back of my scissors but you’d laugh if I told you how I’ve been trying to curl my Stampin’ Up! ribbon…and I’m not going to tell you because it’s so silly!ย Can you see how the center of the flowers sparkle? Maybe not but take my word for it, they shimmer and sparkle.

Of course the inside always needs a little stamping so I added a little flower to the bottom. Remember to stamp your envelope. What do you think? Is it a winner? Love your fun whimsical watercolour effect! The twine embellishment is great too – it reminds me of a butterfly up there in the corner. Thanks so much for sharing your talents and joining in with this week’s Global Design Project.
